AVANCE’s signature effort is the Parent-Child Education
Program, a research-proven model that is preventative, community-based, and
two-generation focused. It
provides parents with the tools to become active participants in their children’s
lives and provides children from 0 to 3 years with the education needed to
become prepared and engaged students. The Parent-Child Education Program
reports that more than 90 percent of its participant children outperform peers
in reading, math, writing and science.
From its beginnings 37 years ago with 35 families in a 500-unit public
housing development, AVANCE now works in more than 100 sites in Texas, New
Mexico, and California and serves tens of thousands of families annually, offering
comprehensive early childhood and parenting education, and family support
services to primarily Hispanic families in low-income, at-risk communities.
