Newsroom Just Added: Session on Reconstruction After Hurricane Katrina Also, Senator Charles Grassley to Speak to CEOs
(Washington, D.C., October 7, 2005) -- Dedicated to the theme “Reshaping the Social Compact,” Independent Sector's 25th Anniversary Conference will consider how business, government, and the charitable sector can forge a new partnership to ensure a vibrant democracy -- an issue made even more critical in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In a newly added plenary session, “Towards a Better Society: Rebuilding Communities in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina,” nonprofit leaders will examine long-term issues raised in the aftermath of the Gulf Coast 's devastating hurricanes and how nonprofits can work together to rebuild the affected communities. Also at the conference, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), chair of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, will speak at the CEO Summit about issues he hopes to address with legislation the committee is now considering that may profoundly affect how charitable organizations operate. Approximately 1,000 CEOs and senior-level executives from diverse and varied segments of the charitable sector from across the country are expected to convene from October 23-25 in Washington, D.C., to focus on the social compact and the role the charitable community plays in its definition and fulfillment.
