Newsroom MEDIA ADVISORY
Nearly 1000 leaders from the nation’s charities, foundations, and corporate philanthropy programs will convene at the Independent Sector Annual Conference from October 21– 23, 2007, in Los Angeles. The conference will focus on the theme “Opportunity and Responsibility,” two interconnected ideas at the heart of the nonprofit community’s commitment to improving lives. Conference sessions will address how nonprofit organizations can improve their contribution to the democratic process and to communities; how charities and foundations can better demonstrate the effectiveness and accountability that are vital for maintaining public support; and explore new tools, ideas, and perspectives to enhance creativity. A session on advancing self-regulation will concentrate on the Principles for Good Governance and Ethical Practice: A Guide for Charities and Foundations, which were developed by the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector to continue its work to strengthen the transparency, governance, and accountability of charitable organizations. The 2007 Annual Conference will allow hundreds of CEOs, trustees, senior-level professionals, and scholars to collaborate in addressing these topics, and by so doing, fulfill our responsibility to improve lives around the world and create the opportunities everyone deserves. Speakers include:
